Making Money with a Computer Virus

Running a large number of websites and a small office network has certainly given me a lot of experience in being exposed to the dangers of Viruses, Trojans and other MalWare.  Also, having taught an introductory course in computer crime and written a book on technology - well, I have at least a pretty good idea about the dangers of the Internet. But, I didn’t think I would ever fall into a way to make money with computer viruses.

It started over a year ago.  The first indication was the network slowing - then, several of the more popular websites were hacked.  How a keylogger program became installed - well, I have my suspicions.  I did some research and found an online computer repair company.  Rather than take all the computers in or call a technician to the office, I figured I’d roll the dice.

I was very pleased an hour later.  Remotely, the company found, killed and then restored - for a single -  very reasonable price - my computer.  Heck, I signed up with for year which included tuning and optimizing all computers.  For the next year, every once a while, we went online and the company remotely scanned and optimized.

The year was great - but, not having had any recurrences, I let the contract lapse.  Six months later, I did it this time.  In an effort to improve broadcast sound quality - I did something stupid.  I disable the firewall and virus protection.  Really, it should have been okay.  I had I remembered to re-activate the programs.  The next day - we were slammed.

My fault.  I contacted the remote technicians.  This time - same great service, but the Trojan had burrowed deep into a single machine.  It took longer - but they were able to restore everything.  I was so pleased, I told the technician via chat that I would be blogging about my satisfaction; and, link to them.  This honest guy says, “You ought to just become an affiliate.”

That was an easy decision.  Over the last 18 months I have referred dozens of people to them - each one was as satisfied as I was.  I never imagined I could become an affiliate.  Because of my websites, I am an affiliate with several companies.  None was this easy - nor, do I have such a personal connection.  I signed up, they created a page - at no cost to me.  I then registered a domain, pointed to the sub-domain they had created - and, well I am in business.

There is one last cool part - I can sign up people to be affiliates and - well, get a small commission of the people they refer.  Can you imagine - all the people, all the computers, all the knotheads creating viruses - now I can make a little money helping people clean their machines!

First, if your machine is infected, or slow, I strongly recommended these technicians - it’s done remotely and very cool to watch your cursor move on its own.  Second, if you would like be an affiliate - that’s right, make money with computer viruses, I encourage to click on the link and sign up!

Program Gives Senior Officials 21st Century Skill Sets

By Army Staff Sgt. Michael J. Carden
American Forces Press Service

July 1, 2008 - A new Defense Department program for senior-level civilians seeks to develop the skills and competencies needed to lead the 21st century national defense effort. The Defense Senior Leader Development Program, which replaces the current Defense Leadership and Management Program, is the new "premiere executive development program for senior defense civilians and a key component of the department's succession planning strategy," said Patricia Bradshaw, deputy undersecretary of defense for civilian personnel policy.

"Civilians are playing a much greater role alongside our warfighters," she said. "Today, they are on the front lines, and civilians, including [Defense Department] civilians, have a role in reconstruction phases as well as other areas on today's battlefield."

The new program targets already-successful senior leaders needing to strengthen their knowledge of national security and broaden their enterprise view, Bradshaw said. Experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Hurricane Katrina, shown the need for senior-level training to evolve beyond the Defense Department into the multinational and interagency world of the State Department, nongovernmental organizations and country allies, Bradshaw said.

As the U.S. aids the Iraqi government, for example, civilian teams from the U.S. Defense and State departments are working alongside military personnel assisting in rebuilding Iraq's ministries. Civilians are advising Iraqi officials on areas ranging from rule of law and economics to government and education, she said.

"Civilians are called upon to serve in ways we have not in the past," she said. "So it's not only the basic competencies we need to focus on; it's the ability to lead in our environment and make decisions."

Efforts such as the new training program will give senior civilians the tools they need to be successful in environments such as Iraq, Bradshaw said.

The need for the new program was recognized in 2005, and it was approved in 2007. Nominations for the first class, which begins in February, are due in September, and up to 50 people will be selected by December, said David A. Rude, chief of senior leader development, Civilian Personnel Management Service.

Individuals participating in DLAMP all received a letter last year explaining that the program would end in fiscal 2010. They must complete all program requirements to apply for completion, Rude said.

Graduates from the previous program aren't eligible for the new one; however, supplementary courses, training and seminars are available to help them, as well as those who don't get into the new program, become more competitive, Bradshaw said. Eventually, department employees will be able to go online and see what kind of leadership seminars and courses are available and how they map to a particular leadership competency, she added.

Those selected for the new program can expect four weeklong seminars, participation in case studies and 10 months of military education at one of the five war colleges to give them a broader sense of national security and working side by side with servicemembers, Bradshaw said.

Each service component will implement its own process requirements for how individuals are nominated. Basic eligibility requirements for the two-year program are:

-- Permanent, full-time Defense Department civilian employee at National Security Personnel System Pay Band 3, or GS-14/15 and equivalent;

-- Bachelor's degree as required to attend professional military education at one of the five service war colleges; and

-- One year of supervisory experience, which may be waived upon component recommendation.

An hourlong town hall meeting about the new program will be held at the Pentagon Conference Center at 8:30 a.m. July 8. The meeting will stream on the Civilian Personnel Management Service Web site for those who cannot attend in person.

Leaders Growing Leaders

Building Your Organization by Developing Leaders-At Every Level
Overview

This seminar prepares you for a central task and test of leadership: growing other leaders. The impending retirement of a large component of senior executives over the next few years is intensifying this interest.

Leaders Growing Leaders is designed to help you understand the leadership gap and to develop innovative approaches to improve the situation in your organization. It draws on years of research that clearly demonstrate that leaders are primarily grown, formally and informally, through challenging job-based experiences and interaction with senior leaders.

How Will You Benefit
Understand the difference between leaders and managers
Learn the best ways to help leaders develop on the job
Discover and demonstrate the essential skills for developing leaders
Learn how to frame your life and work experiences as stories to help others learn leadership lessons
Build and implement an effective succession management plan and initiate other leadership development programs for your organization

Leadership

A recent Amazon customer review of Leadership: Texas Hold ‘em Style

“I write police promotional textbook exams and assessments for a living [...]. I'm always seeking out new and cutting edge books in the fields of police supervision, management and leadership.

So, I was very pleasantly surprised after I finished reading this unique leadership book. It presents an impressive amount of information on leadership in a fun and interesting format - with liberal use of relevant and humorous quotes, experiences and analogies. Your retention of the material will be extremely high because of the author's unique writing style and the attention-grabbing format. Both authors are highly qualified and experienced to present this material - but that's not the primary reason you should consider this book. If you are in law enforcement, entering law enforcement or looking to advance your law enforcement career, this book not only covers the basic leadership experience in a way that is lively and interesting, it makes you relate to and almost experience the hardcore, daily struggle all law enforcement supervisors and managers have with how to select, train and "grow" quality law enforcement personnel.

It took a lot of guts to write a leadership book in such a unique format. And guts is what you'll need in Poker .. and in Leadership ... and this book, if nothing else, will make you see how you can embody these leadership skills.”

Leadership

You cannot survive without that intangible quality we call heart. The mark of a top player is not how much he wins when he is winning but how he handles his losses.  If you win for thirty days in a row, that makes no difference if on the thirty-first you have a bad night, go crazy, and throw it all away.
Bobby Baldwin on Poker

Morale is incredibly important in any organization; it affects everything.  It affects how people treat one another, their work quality and even the way in which they answer the phone.  It is elusive in nature but palpable in its impact.  If morale is low, it is a problem even if everything else in an organization is strong.  Karl Von Clausewitz, a Prussian military general and military theorist, identified morale as a fundamental military principle.  Since Clausewitz published On War, morale has developed into a concept seen as critical to organizations.  Unfortunately, morale is difficult to define and in many circles has become somewhat synonymous with motivation.  But, morale is not about motivation.

Tag me

Greetings:

My new book on leadership is up on Amazon.  The book image hasn’t appear yet, but things are moving in the right direction.  I would appreciate you visiting Amazon and “tagging” the product.  This involves you identifying the product for search engines – words like leadership, leader, leading, business leadership, etc., would be great tags.  When it asks you why you have tagged it, you could say something like you are a “friend, business associate, colleague, etc.” and have seen my resume and know I am capable of writing a great book on leadership.  Here’s the link:

If you want to review my resume you can go to www.police-technology.net/raymond.foster.cv.html.
